Broken Paradise

In this broken paradise, nothing’s what it seems;
We think we have what it takes to fulfil all our dreams.
We stumble through the daytime; we try to take some ground;
We claim a victory here and there, but Eden’s still not found.

In the night we try to sleep, take shelter from the day.
Our weary hearts fit to falter; despairs not far away.
It’s lonely and confusing; which way is back to front?
How can we reach the open space if we can’t see where to run?

Perhaps there is no ground to take, perhaps our dreams are nul.
Maybe stumbling is part of life, just the way things go.
No wonder we feel somethings amiss, that there is more besides;
There must be life out there to find, which in the darkness hides.

This dry and rocky road is taxing, trials beset the way.
Can we get to ‘back on track?’ Back to light of day?
Opaque it seems to us, this path, to find where hearts belong.
We push on through desert wastes; alive, but not by bread alone.

So we reach beyond ourselves, to One who holds the truth:
To One who stands and cracks the door: who wants to come on through.
He’s our Anchor in this life, In Him our souls are well.
He puts paradise back together; brings heaven into our hell.

“Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.”

Isaiah 55:6
